an area full of natural beauty, picturesque villages, shops to browse and places to stay and to eat

Wallingford Visitor Moorings

Wallingford is an historic market town which began as a Saxon stronghold. In 1066 William the Conqueror came here to cross the Thames with his army, very close to this spot.

Today you can cross the river more easily using the steps up onto the medieval bridge to discover what the market town of Wallingford has to offer. It's an easy five minute walk into the town which has an abundance of independent shops and plenty of places to eat and drink.

Most shops are to be found near to the Town Hall in the Market Square, between St Martin's Street and St Mary's Street. Details about Wallingford's rich history can be found in the Town Information Centre, and the Museum along the High Street with its antique shops is also well worth a visit.

Wallingford also boasts the remains of a castle - the first on this site was built by the Normans which dominated the town's history for the next 600 years.
